ILM's Systems Administrators help design, build and advance the technology that empowers our artists to create dazzling visuals! They work closely with our creative teams, in a fast-paced and intensely collaborative film production environment, across studios in San Francisco, Vancouver, London, Sydney, and Mumbai.
Position Summary
This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.
This position performs a wide range of roles and responsibilities related to operational support, tasks and projects across all of the systems technology stack at the ILM Vancouver studio. This includes designing and maintaining studio infrastructure, and comfortably working with low-level hardware and software integration. This position is an authority on all aspects of Linux, our primary production OS, and drives the adoption, deployment and advancement of open source solutions.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with technology teams, artists and production to craft and maintain efficient software and hardware systems!
- Participate in day to day operations, work on issues, provide guidance for other team members and proactively help drive resolutions during incidents.
- Supervise and maintain the health of the core infrastructure that supports our production environment, including workstations, servers, storage, network and security.
- Optimize and update existing systems and services, with an emphasis on performance, security and reliability. Focus on enhancing observability and tracking important metrics.
- Take the lead on technical projects from initial shape-up to completion, and at other times participate as a partner and contributor to someone else's idea.
- Support ad hoc requests and needs from our creative and technology leadership: connect and collaborate with others to settle requirements. From there, you will come up with a set of recommended proposals and work to implement those.
- Help shape our technology direction and the future of our infrastructure and services. Look for innovative methodologies or solutions with potential to improve and benefit our operations.
- Maintain systems administration standards and practices through well-crafted documentation and playbooks.

- Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience with proven work in a technical field.
- Effective time management with the skill to balance and prioritize multiple concurrent requests while maintaining the highest standard in service delivery and follow-through.
- Meticulous customer service skills, delivered with a caring and compassionate spirit.
- Agile, flexible mentality who doesn't mind when the requirements or goal posts change.
- Significant experience managing updates and configurations for Linux-based infrastructure, at scale.
- Ability to automate workflows and provide ad hoc solutions using bash or python or other languages.
- Experience administrating and supporting a multi-OS environment including Linux, Windows and macOS for both server and desktop.
- Excellent documentation skills, including writing for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working with cloud or cloud-like infrastructure and services, including virtual and bare-metal servers, storage and networking.
- Previous experience in visual effects, gaming or similar creative studio environments would be great.

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$85,900.00 to C$115,100.00 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
