Job Title: Audit Senior Manager – Conduct and Operational Risk
Working Pattern: Part-time working pattern, flexible to be agreed but preferred 4 days, 29 hours per week
Salary: FTE up to £95,000 and up to 20% bonus and benefits
Location: Flexible – Embrace hybrid work from any of our vibrant UK offices in Blackpool, London or Cardiff. Some travel between offices will be required on occasions.

We’re at the start of an exciting journey to evolve our Internal Audit strategy with the aim of building an amazing in-house Tandem audit team delivering assurance that is built on trusted business partnerships. This is a key senior hire who will play a vital role in making sure we deliver high quality assurance and advisory work to support effective risk management and a strong control culture.  As such we’re looking for an ambitious and purpose-driven Audit Senior Manager who is energised by the opportunity to make a real difference across the Bank to join the Audit leadership team, reporting to the Head of Internal Audit (SMF5).

The Audit Senior Manager will have the opportunity to actively shape the strategic direction of the Internal Audit function, supporting the Head of Internal Audit to evolve the function’s approach and ways of working reflective of the Bank’s evolving needs.

The role holder will be responsible for leading the Conduct and Operational Risk Internal Audit team and relevant elements of the audit plan.  The role holder will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong cross functional senior relationships across the Bank to deliver independent risk-based and objective assurance, advice, insight and foresight to Senior Management and the Board Audit Committee, helping the Bank to responsibly achieve its strategic objectives.

Your Impact: Building a greener tomorrow 

As an Audit Senior Manager (Conduct and Operational Risk) at Tandem your focus will be on:

  • Leading the Conduct and Operational Risk Internal Audit team, including performance management, coaching and developing the team
  • Overseeing quality delivery of the Conduct and Operational Risk elements of the audit plan, including review supervision and oversight and quality of audit reporting outputs
  • Providing support, steer, and challenge to the business on outcomes and actions arising from audit activities
  • Maintaining and evolving the Audit risk universe, taking a lead role in audit planning processes to ensure a dynamic and relevant audit plan that provides appropriate levels of assurance
  • Increasing the function’s visibility and building credibility with the business by developing a strong partnership model across the Bank, leading relationships with senior management in key business functions
  • Supporting the Head of Internal Audit in delivering against the strategic objectives of the audit function
  • Attendance at key governance forums/committees to positively influence discussion and continual promotion of a positive risk aware culture
  • Influence positive change and discussion in relation to the Bank’s governance and control framework
  • Producing MI for bank wide Executive Committee’s on assurance activity
  • Deputising for the Head of Internal Audit, as needed

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Significant experience leading, planning, execution and reporting on internal audits with exceptional project management skills able to oversee teams to deliver high quality audit work
  • Subject matter expertise in conduct and operational risk areas
  • Excellent understanding and ability to make appropriate assessments of risk management and control frameworks, demonstrating relevant professional judgment
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment within which Tandem Bank operates
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills to maximise the influence of our work, even when delivering difficult messages to senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills including the confidence to interact with and challenge senior stakeholders across the business 
  • A collaborative approach to stakeholder management
  • A positive, can-do attitude and are passionate about elevating the impact of internal audit and finding ways to continually add value
  • A curiosity and tenacity to learn, who is confident approaching areas outside your core expertise in a thorough manner, getting to the heart of a matter quickly
  • Strong people management skills including the ability to lead, develop and motivate a team and support colleagues to deliver great work and achieve their potential

It would be great, but not essential if you have:

  • Experience of working in a digital or challenger bank
  • Experience in the use of data analytics or different ways of working, such as Agile to enhance quality and timeliness of audit input
  • Experience of designing, developing and implementing initiatives to improve audit quality or impact
