Role Overview:

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Skyhigh Security Chief Engineer has overall accountability for “how” Skyhigh develops its products, ensuring the predictable delivery of high-quality products. The Chief Engineer will be focused on shaping an engineering group that is capable of efficiently and effectively developing and operating a mission critical and highly scaled SaaS Service. This is a functional role working across several product verticals.

About the Role 

The Chief Engineer has overall accountability for “how” Skyhigh develops its products, ensuring the predictable delivery of high-quality products.  The Chief Engineer will be focused on shaping an engineering group that is capable of efficiently and effectively developing and operating a mission critical and highly scaled SaaS Service. This is a functional role working across several product verticals and reports to the Chief Technology Officer

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain the Skyhigh SDLC, tailoring and adapting standard Agile models as the business evolves 

  • Develop and maintain engineering practice (e.g. coding standards, coding approaches such as BDD) 

  • Drive a continuous improvement culture within product engineering. Benchmark and measure against standards like DORA and develop improvement initiatives to drive improvement against the most important areas  

  • Establish, collect and maintain the key metrics that will be used as leading and lagging indicators to assess directional improvement 

  • Act as a functional leader for the engineering community. Including but not limited to establishing communities of practice, role design, career ladders, training & learning 

  • Embed a DevSecOps culture within the engineering group 

  • Work across the organization to make sure that the product lifecycle is as efficient and effective as possible from idea to implementation 

  • Accountable for determining the optimal engineering toolchain

  • Establish and foster a “you build it you run it” culture  

  • Establish and drive a Quality-first approach, including but not limited to: 

    • Build and maintain a Quality strategy 

    • Establish the key Quality metrics – lagging and leading indicators 

    • Build and run a quality improvement plan  

    • Drive functional consistency in quality the approach across different product verticals 

    • Ensure all levels of testing are undertaken effectively from unit testing up to full solution testing  

 About You 

  • Prior Experience in the role of Chief Engineer or Enterprise Architect with deep experience implementing 'quality-first' strategy, standards and practices across multiple engineering organizations

  • Strong Agile practitioner with experience working with large geographically distributed global teams 

  • Working knowledge of Agile and DevOps best practice frameworks 

  • High level of understanding of business impact on technical strategy 

  • Strong leadership skills including vision-setting, coaching and cross-team communication 

  • Strong influencing skills
