The Controls Systems Safety Engineer shall specify, validate and verify safety aspects of complex sub-systems, including high-level requirements for the software and / or hardware system components, this will include creation of mathematical safety models and safety arguments.
What you will be doing:
As a Controls Systems Safety Engineer, you will own the delivery and quality of control and instrumentation sub-systems safety deliverables. You will translate high-level requirements into validated designs, ensuring systems meet performance, safety, and verification standards through analysis, modelling, and testing.
Key Accountabilities
- Translate high-level Certification and customer safety requirements into validated system and sub-system requirements, defining constraints, failure rate budgets, and protective features.
- Conduct safety analysis using standard safety modelling techniques to demonstrate compliance against high-level safety requirements.
- Support the investigation and resolution of system issues through identification of safety impact and support to problem closure with robust safety arguments
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment with architecture and hazard requirements.
- Produce technical documentation and reports to capture safety analysis outputs.
- Support continuous improvement through development of processes, tools, training materials, and knowledge sharing.
Who we’re looking for:
Technical Skills:
- Control systems safety methodologies
- Knowledge of plant/platform interfaces and component behaviour in normal and abnormal (failure) conditions
- Experience with safety modelling consistent with ARP4761A/ ED-135such as fault tree analysis,
- Proficiency with safety analysis tools
- Understanding of system safety processes
- Ability to interpret systems data and produce evidence-based safety arguments and conclusions
- Appreciation of multidisciplinary engineering environments

- Ability to manage tasks to completion and communicate progress effectively
- Confidence in identifying and escalating risks and issues
