Data & BI Developer

Help us turn data into decisions

At Nisbets, we want to make it easier for colleagues to find, trust and use the data they need to make good decisions.

As our Data & BI Developer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference to how we use data across the business. Working with colleagues across IT, Finance and other teams, you’ll take business questions and turn them into clear, useful insight through Power BI and our wider data estate. The underlying JD specifically combines analysis and report development with data quality, governance and user enablement.

You won’t just be building dashboards. You’ll help improve existing reporting, reduce duplication, strengthen data quality and make our BI solutions easier for people to understand, maintain and trust.

Where you’ll work

The role is based at our Fourth Way office in Avonmouth, with hybrid working available following an initial training period.

What you’ll get to work on

You’ll have the chance to:

  • Build and improve Power BI reports and dashboards that help colleagues make informed decisions.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand the problem they’re trying to solve, not simply take a reporting request.
  • Develop data models, measures and calculations using Power Query and DAX.
  • Use SQL to explore, validate and reconcile data from business systems and the data warehouse.
  • Find useful trends, exceptions and opportunities within data from a variety of sources.
  • Improve data quality and help resolve recurring issues at source.
  • Simplify and consolidate reporting, reducing duplication and improving consistency.
  • Help shape better standards for reporting, governance, security and deployment.

What you’ll bring

We don’t expect you to know everything, but you’ll need a strong foundation in:

  • Power BI, Power Query and DAX.
  • SQL and relational databases.
  • Data warehousing and dimensional data modelling, including star schemas, facts and dimensions.
  • Turning business requirements into practical reporting and insight.
  • Analysing and validating data, with a strong focus on accuracy.
  • Communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Experience of Finance or commercially focused reporting, ETL/SSIS, Power Automate or AI-enabled analytics would be useful, but isn’t essential.

We’re determined to take the next step. But we need your help to do it. It’s all about you.

If you’re looking for a forward-thinking business on which to leave your mark; where your work is valued; Where you’ll test your skills and then develop them further than you thought you could - Nisbets is for you.
