Job Description

Please note, role Remote or Hybrid Subject to Location

We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Engineer to support a large-scale migration project. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and executing migration strategies to ensure data is transferred accurately, securely, and efficiently into the target environment.

This role requires a hands-on engineer with strong SQL expertise, particularly in MySQL, who can take ownership of migration tasks, proactively identify risks, and collaborate closely with technical and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and execute ETL processes to migrate data from legacy systems to target platforms.
  • Write and optimise complex SQL queries (preferably MySQL) to support data extraction, transformation, and validation.
  • Apply the full data quality framework (accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, validity, uniqueness, integrity) across all migration activities.
  • Conduct data profiling, cleansing, and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of migrated data.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into data transformation rules and implement them effectively.
  • Provide clear feedback to QA data testers, ensuring test coverage and quality are maintained throughout.
  • Raise and manage risks, issues, and blockers promptly, keeping all stakeholders fully informed.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with business needs.
  • Provide clear documentation of migration processes, data mappings, data quality checks, and testing results.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and resolve data-related issues promptly.
  • Ensure migrations comply with data governance, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with case management software and related systems to understand data structures and workflows.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Proven experience in public sector large-scale data migration projects.
  • Strong SQL development skills within MySQL environments.
  • Solid understanding of data transformations and ETL workflows.
  • Knowledge and application of data quality dimensions in migration processes.
  • Familiarity with case management systems and associated data structures.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, with the ability to take ownership and work independently.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, risk reporting, and supporting QA testers.
  • UK NPPV3 Security Clearance with at least 12 months remaining.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a data team and with cross-functional stakeholders.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Oracle databases (alongside MySQL).
  • Knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing, or data integration tools.
  • Experience in working with agile project delivery methodologies.
  • Ideally Azure and experience in Azure Data Factory for ETL.
