Distinguished Engineer (MQ and Confluent Kafka) - Executive Director

About this role:
We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Distinguished Engineer to provide technical leadership and strategic direction for our enterprise-wide messaging and event streaming platforms.
This is a senior-level, individual contributor role for a world-class expert in IBM MQ and Confluent Kafka, who will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and operating the mission-critical infrastructure that underpins our global banking services.
The ideal candidate will be a thought leader and a hands-on technologist with a passion for innovation, reliability, and engineering excellence.
In this role, you will:

• Define and drive the long-term technical vision and strategy for our messaging and event streaming platforms, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.
• Lead the design and architecture of highly scalable, resilient, and secure solutions for our IBM MQ and Confluent Kafka ecosystems.
• Act as the ultimate technical authority and point of escalation for all aspects of MQ and Kafka, providing expert guidance to engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop other engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Lead the engineering efforts for building, deploying, and maintaining our messaging and streaming infrastructure, with a focus on automation, observability, and self-service capabilities.
• Drive the adoption of modern engineering practices, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps, and SRE principles.
• Oversee the performance, capacity, and security of our messaging and streaming platforms, ensuring they meet the stringent requirements of the banking industry.
• Collaboration and Communication Collaborate with application development teams, architects, and business stakeholders to understand their requirements and provide optimal solutions.
• Evangelize the use of messaging and event-driven architectures across the organization.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
• Experience in software engineering, with a focus on middleware and distributed systems.
• Expert-level knowledge and hands-on experience with IBM MQ and Confluent Kafka, including architecture, administration, performance tuning, and security.
• Proven experience in designing and operating large-scale, mission-critical systems in the financial services industry.
• Strong understanding of messaging and streaming patterns, and event-driven architecture.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire engineers and stakeholders at all levels.
