System Design Integrator

Full time/Part Time

Bristol/Hybrid 3days in the office

Exciting opportunities have arisen for Design Integrators and Systems Engineers to join the Design Engineering function, based at Rolls-Royce in Bristol.   

This role is part of a high profile, and fast paced and significant engineering challenge. What we are striving to achieve requires innovative thinking, creative problem solving and, clarity of purpose. Our engineering governance team is empathetic, team oriented and focused.

As a Design Integrator or System Engineer, you will extract, understand and define technical requirements working alongside stakeholders to develop potential solutions. You will ideally have knowledge in problem resolution, designing and integrating products, both physical &, functional systems & product systems, performing technical assessment, as well as defining verification strategies for them throughout the product lifecycle.

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Managing Systems Engineering across the entire life-cycle. Connecting with and providing systems engineering coaching or training to engineers from other functions.

  • Facilitate the elicitation, maturation and validation of stakeholder requirements including customer, business, and technical to ensure robust problem and solution space understanding

  • Use Systems Engineering tools to Systematically investigate and understand problems including Safety, Quality, Customer & Business Requirements.

  • Understanding products and their interactions at various system levels such as platform, system, sub-system, component, component feature and manufacturing process level.

  • Defining and interpreting product definition and documentation.

  • Develop product verification strategies and compliance statements.

  • Working in teams to engineer complex (electro, fluid, thermal, mechanical) systems. 

  • Integrating outward to platform and customer environment and inwards through product systems and sub-systems.

  • Defining robust solutions.

  • Managing risk.

  • Supporting Validation and Verification activities.

  • Creating justifications for release to service.

  • Supporting products in production and service.

  • Experience in an engineering discipline or an engineering degree or regional equivalent qualification.

  • An understanding of Systems Engineering, System Design or System Integration tools and techniques.

  • An understanding of the importance of requirements and how to help elicit requirements.

  • An understanding of how systems integrate to achieve top level requirements and the importance of emergent properties.

  • Have an understanding of either gas turbines or relevant systems that would have parallels with our sub-systems (fuel, oil, air, control).

  • Good communication and presentation skills with an ability to collaborate effectively across different engineering discipline

The professional level and salary of the position will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate but is anticipated to be Staff Grade 7-10
