The Role

The Head of People Operations is accountable for global People Operations at Google DeepMind (GDM) covering a broad range of generalist people and culture topic areas including people query resolution, core people policies and processes, global mobility, and people systems, data and tech. 

The role reports into the Director of Employee Relations and People Operations. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing, implementing and continually evolving the GDM People Operations long-term strategy and roadmap, with a focus on scaling employee life cycle processes to meet the changing needs of the organisation.
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a global team of experienced People Operations leaders and individual contributors, providing strategic steering and thought partnership. 
  • Plan, lead and oversee the overall People Operations team portfolio of work in support of wider organisational strategic priorities; act as an escalation point for prioritisation and key decision making.
  • Implement and monitor success metrics that assess the effectiveness of people operations within GDM, using insights to inform strategy, planning, and ongoing operating model reviews. 
  • Lead the delivery of cross-functional, critical and complex programs aligned to organisational strategic priorities; solve problems holistically, independent of organisational boundaries and in support of progress towards the organisation's mission. 
  • Advocate for, and oversee the implementation of strategic long-term improvements to GDM initiatives.
  • Connect and drive people operations priorities and relationships across Alphabet, Google and Google DeepMind, creating new opportunities in support of progress towards the mission.
  • Collaborate with leaders across P&C and wider GDM as a trusted functional advisor and thought-leader.
  • Hold ownership for Google DeepMind people operations data.

About You

In order to set you up for success as a Head of People Operations at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • You have experience leading people operations processes and practices within the UK and US and understand the importance and criticality of ‘business as usual’ work. 
  • You are experienced at influencing, and anticipating and balancing the needs of senior stakeholders, forming strategic cross-functional alliances to collaborate and influence team alignment to the GDM Strategy.
  • You balance the strategic and operational with a systems mindset, looking at the bigger picture to consider how your work affects others, and operationalising strategies that optimise for the needs of the organisation.
  • You are an experienced people manager who enjoys coaching, mentoring and developing senior people professionals to achieve their potential.
  • You are experienced leading large teams, including managing other managers. 
  • You have experience scaling people operations and processes to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • You build impactful relationships with others and are collaborative and work best as part of a team. 
  • You navigate change effectively, handling unexpected challenges and complexity with composure. 
  • You are experienced in finding, analysing, and interpreting data to generate insights and recommendations. 

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • You have broad, generalist HR knowledge and expertise. 
  • You have experience managing people operations processes and practices within France, Switzerland, Israel, Canada, and India. 
  • You are experienced in designing, implementing, and evaluating people processes to optimise for the needs of the organisation. 
  • You have experience managing external vendors.
