Salary Banding: £44,910 - £58,810 per annum
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Working Location: Hybrid, 2 Days a week in the office, minimum

Hi, I’m Peter Laszlo, Backend Discipline Lead and hiring manager for this role. I’m excited to invite you to apply for the Java Engineer position in our Data Platform Framework Squad at Hawk-Eye Innovations. What Your Day Will Look Like

As a Java Engineer in our Data Platform Framework Squad, you'll play a key role in developing and optimising data-intensive backend services that power live sports events. Our team is responsible for managing data feeds, event-driven processing, and cloud-based infrastructure to deliver real-time insights internally and to global sports leagues and partners.

You’ll work in an agile environment, collaborating with engineers across our entire backend team. Given the high-profile nature of our work, we operate in a fast-moving environment where efficiency and scalability are key to success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain backend services using Java, leveraging internal framework components

  • Work on data pipelines that power operations for various different sports like American football or ice hockey

  • Deploy and scale applications in AWS (Lambda, S3, Apache Flink, etc.)

  • Work on event-driven architectures

  • Collaborate with other engineers in the team to meet high-impact project deadlines

  • Ensure system reliability and performance in high-traffic, real-time environments

Tech Stack and Skill Requirements

Required:

  • Strong Java (preferably Java 11 or later) experience

  • Experience with AWS

  • Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)

  • Experience with microservices and distributed systems

  • Understanding of monitoring, logging, and traceability

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, etc.)

  • Experience with stream-processing concepts (Flink, Spark, Kafka Streams)

  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (GitHub Actions, Terraform)

  • Exposure to real-time data processing and sports tech
