Layout Engineer

Job Description

Are you an experienced Layout Engineer with excellent leadership abilities? We are looking for a technically strong person who excels in line-managing staff and assisting with team coordination.

Do you enjoy a wide variety of tasks and projects? We are seeking someone versatile; you could be working on a small individual assignment or as part of a larger, multi-disciplinary team. You will enjoy working on a range of tasks while helping to mentor and train more junior colleagues.

Examples of the types of work you may be involved in:

• You’ll support the design and layout of building projects by ensuring technical accuracy of P&ID’s, equipment data and cable lists etc.
• Supervising, developing, and mentoring others. Leading technical aspects of layout engineering projects.
• This may be over a range of design phases, from initial concept through to detailed design.
• Coordinating team activities such as resourcing and group meetings (working alongside the group lead).
• Responsible for preparing essential technical documents.

Desired experience you can bring:

• Good communication and leadership skills.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or experience in a related field.
• Chartered Engineer status and membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., IMechE) is desirable.
• Strong technical background in layout engineering standards, including safety protocols.
• Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., power, chemical, oil & gas) is desirable.
• Plant layout design and optimization.
• Equipment layout and spatial arrangement.
• Piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) development.
• 3D modelling and CAD software proficiency.
• Checking and providing assurance of deliverables.
