Company Description

We are looking for a talented data engineer to join our product team and help create our new data and clinical insight services. The successful candidate will be part of a young and rapidly expanding company that is having a global impact in healthcare and medical education.

MedShr is a health technology platform and app that enables doctors to share knowledge and skills to improve healthcare and save lives.

We're looking for motivated people who share our passion for health tech and who want to join MedShr in our growth phase. MedShr is a professional network for doctors that enables clinical case discussion in a private community. Launched from London in October 2015, MedShr now has over 1,400,000 members in over 190 countries.

The design process for MedShr Insights will be led by the former head of product and COO of Benevolent AI who was also in the original MedShr design team.

Job Description

Your role will be to work as a member of the engineering team, leading the development and architecture of new data services and products around clinical insights. Initially focusing on extracting insights from the MedShr platform, this role will involve architecting data flows, developing analyses using medical NLP and other relevant technologies, and helping to implement reports and dashboards using these data.

Our backend tech stack currently consists of:

  • Google Cloud Platform and GKE
  • Languages: PHP, Python and Typescript
  • Primary database: MySQL
  • Reporting and analysis: BigQuery

We are absolutely open to using other relevant technologies, and would expect the candidate to make recommendations as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and maintain a robust data architecture.
  • Develop, test, and maintain high quality code for data analysis and reporting.
  • Contribute expertise to the design and development of our data products.
  • Understand the privacy and security requirements for different types of data, and ensure we design and build accordingly.

Qualifications

Skills and Requirements:

  • Self-starter with an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience building and maintaining robust data platforms.
  • Experience working with Natural Language Processing, with up to date knowledge of the NLP software ecosystem.
  • Deep understanding of SQL.
  • Strong statistical, analytical, and reporting skills.
  • Experience programming in at least one of Python, PHP, Typescript or Javascript.

Desirable:

  • Experience using Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience using “serverless” technologies
  • Experience in medical NLP
  • Experience with Medical / Healthcare data
  • Knowledge of multiple programming languages

Location:

Our tech team is based in the UK with an office west London. We’ve always had options for remote working and over the last year the whole product team has been working from home.
