What you’ll do 

As an Ascent Data Engineer, you’ll get involved in a range of interesting and challenging projects on modern cloud data platforms. You will work closely with colleagues and customers to design and create pipelines that transform data in a scalable and repeatable way, producing efficient code that automates the process of ingesting, cleaning and optimising data for analytics, data science, visualization, integration, and other onward use cases. 

Your daily responsibilities can be varied but typically cover:

  • Work with stakeholders to understand requirements 
  • Build data pipelines and notebook to transform data 
  • Model data to provide optimal data sets for downstream systems 
  • Update data catalogue classifications, lineage, and metadata programmatically and through tools 
  • Work as part of a team responsible for data engineering and data governance 
  • Work with a wide range of source systems and Azure data services 

Skills and experience required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable explaining technical aspects of a task or project to non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Proven experience working in modern cloud data lakehouses and warehouses to produce quality data assets 
  • Solid experience with the Azure data engineering stack, for example: Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse or Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Azure Blob, Cosmos DB 
  • Programming skills in Python Notebooks, with a good grasp of how Spark engines work “under the hood” to ensure optimal processing. 
  • Experience with Azure Purview, cataloging, metadata management, data lineage, classification, etc. 
  • Comfortable working in, and contributing fully to Agile teams, using methods like Scrum and Kanban.
