The Boeing Company

We are looking for a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Network Designer to join the team in Rome, Italy; Madrid, Spain; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Bristol, UK; London, UK or Hamburg, Germany.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate with extensive expertise in Wide Area Networks (WAN), routing, and complete LAN switching (L2 & L3), coupled with a strong understanding of advanced networking protocols. In this role, you will leverage your hands-on experience in implementing and optimizing routing across organizations to enhance our network performance.

Proficiency in key technologies such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Quality of Service (QoS), Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN), and encryption standards is essential. You should have a proven track record of managing largescale, complex network infrastructures, with the ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot these systems effectively.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Position responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance WAN and LAN solutions
  • Architect network systems for large complex organization infrastructures with focus on reliability and security
  • Plan, design, and deploy MPLS networks and designing systems that incorporate advanced QOS strategies and traffic shaping mechanisms
  • Implement and manage routing and switching technologies, particularly OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and BGP
  • Perform troubleshooting and optimization of WAN routing configurations across multiple locations
  • Apply relevant encryption standards for securing data traffic across wide area networks
  • Work with internal teams to ensure that the network is compliant with industry standards and regulations, including implementing Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and Secure Socket Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) encryption protocols.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Information Technology (IT) security, Tech Fellow and stakeholders to align network architecture with business requirements
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including network topology diagrams, configuration guides and capacity planning documents
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to junior designers
  • Provide expert troubleshooting of network related issues related to LAN, WAN and Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) networks
  • Assist in incident resolution, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist and help the Team in managing and own the ticket queue for the L2 and L3 Break/Fix tickets to improve service restoration, metrics as well as the GSEP design change request queue.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years of experience with Large Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) and Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)
  • 10+ years of experience with Quality of Service (QOS), routing and switching protocols
  • 10+ years of experience with designing and implementing large scale network architectures, including complex routing and switching configurations
  • 5+ years of experience with network security, and practical experience in implementing and managing encryption standards such as IPSec, SSL, GETVPN
  • 5+ years of experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds, NetFlow)
  • 5+ years of experience with Incident Management

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or equivalent certifications
  • Experience with network automation tools and scripting languages (python, Ansible)
  • Experience with problem-solving skills and ability to address complex network issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Experience with communication skills and collaboration with cross functional teams.
