Job Description:

SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check)

TRAVEL REQUIRED: Occasional  travel within UK and international

LOCATION: Filton, Bristol (60% of your working week must be office based)

TYPE: Full time

At Airbus Central Research & Technology we are at the forefront of innovation, developing cutting-edge technologies for future air and space systems (e.g. commercial and military aircraft, as well as satellites). 

Our focus is on delivering novel functionalities whilst reducing the environmental footprint of our company’s products and services.

By joining our team of researchers at our state-of-the-art facility in Filton, UK, working from the theoretical design, analytics, to the final experimental validation, you will help drive advancements in optical communication systems and support our business units.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM 

  • Designing innovative concepts and architectures for next-generation free-space optical communication systems.

  • Developing customised solutions for free-space optical links, including both analogue and digital aspects.

  • Conducting system-level modelling and simulation of optical links.

  • Hands-on laboratory work to simulate, model, and demonstrate new technologies.

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven experience in optical communication systems.

  • Advanced expertise in optical systems implementation and testing.

  • Familiarity with electronic systems and components, photonic-integrated circuits, optical turbulence mitigation, and fibre-based optics is a strong advantage.

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Optics or related subject or proven experience in delivering research projects from idea generation through to completion.
