Location: Edinburgh, Bristol, London (Including Hybrid)

Salary: £80,000 - £94,000

Reporting to: Head of Reliability Engineering

You'll be joining the Kaluza Product and Technology community. We’re a diverse team of engineers who strive to be data-led, product/outcome focused, always pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary pace and scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness by ensuring best practices are implemented wherever possible

You’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers. 

What will I be doing?

  • We are seeking an experienced and strategic Platform Engineering Manager to lead our Internal Developer Platform engineering team. You will play a pivotal role in building and scaling the foundational infrastructure, services, and tools that support our software development lifecycle. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our platform is secure, scalable, reliable, and developer-friendly.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and grow a team of passionate platform engineers focused on building best of breed internal platforms and services.
  • Strategic Planning: Work with the relevant Product Managers, Staff engineers and Tech Leads to define and execute the platform engineering roadmap in alignment with product and organisational goals.
  • Operational Ownership: Work closely with peers in SRE with regards the development, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, observability stacks, and developer tooling.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with application developers, SRE, security, and QA teams to understand their needs and deliver effective solutions.
  • Automation and Reliability: Drive adoption of infrastructure-as-code and site reliability engineering (SRE) principles to improve system performance and reduce operational overhead.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure the platform adheres to best practices in security, compliance, and governance.
  • Technical Guidance: Input into architectural direction and provide hands-on guidance for solving complex engineering challenges.

Is this the job for me?

You’re the right person for us if you…

  • Have 5+ years in software/platform engineering, with 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience leading high-performing engineering teams and delivering complex technical projects.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (preferably AWS), container orchestration (Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK, Cloudformation), and CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, etc.).
  • Experience with SRE practices (SLAs, SLOs, error budgets).
  • Familiarity with observability tools e.g. Datadog.
  • Prior experience building internal developer platforms (IDPs) or platform-as-a-service (PaaS) environments.
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA).
