As a Principal Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Risk Technology team, you provide expertise and engineering excellence as an integral part of an agile team to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Leverage your advanced technical capabilities and collaborate with colleagues across the organization to drive best-in-class outcomes across various technologies to support one or more of the firm's portfolios.
As a part of the Risk Technology team, you will participate in a multi-year transformation journey to modernize and migrate our Data and AI capabilities to the public cloud. Within our Risk Engineering and Architecture organisation, the Data team is committed to developing a comprehensive ecosystem of data products, managing hundreds of petabytes of data and catering to thousands of analytics users. The ultimate objective of our team is to promote business impact, insights, personalized experience and maximize the value of AI.
Job responsibilities

  • Develops the Risk Data Architecture strategy and works across teams to drive its implementation
  • Advises cross-functional teams on technology selection to achieve target state architecture and decisions on improvements to current technologies
  • Develops multi-year roadmaps aligned with business and architecture strategy and priorities
  • Advises and leads on data architecture strategy and development of multiple products, applications, and technologies across a portfolio
  • Translates highly complex technical issues, trends, and approaches to leadership to drive the firm's innovation and enable leaders to make strategic, well-informed decisions about data architecture for the target state
  • Establishes and leads a data architecture governance body
  • Creates complex and scalable coding frameworks using appropriate software design frameworks
  • Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Serves as the function's go-to subject matter expert
  • Creates durable, reusable software frameworks that are leveraged across teams and functions
  • Champions the firm's culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect


Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering* concepts and expert applied experience
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • Expert in one or more programming language(s) - Java is essential,
  • Experience applying expertise and new methods to determine data solutions for complex architecture problems across various technical disciplines
  • Extensive practical cloud native experience
  • Ability to evaluate current and emerging technologies to recommend the best data architecture solutions or approach to achieve the future state architecture
  • Advanced knowledge of software application development and technical processes with considerable in-depth knowledge in one or more technical disciplines (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
  • Experience applying expertise and new methods to determine solutions for complex technology problems in one or more technical disciplines
  • Ability to present and effectively communicate with Senior Leaders and Executives
  • Experience with Market, Credit or Liquidity Risk functions


Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience working with large, globally diverse organisations
  • Experience working in finance or another highly regulated industry
  • Experience with large interconnected systems and grid compute platforms
