The Renewal and Sales Associate will be responsible for renewals of all GB Small Business Alpha cases and Signature cases up to 50 lives from the first renewal onwards working with Account Executives (AE), Small Business (SB) Director and Renewal Underwriters and other staff in the RGO. The incumbent will support the Account Executives in building and maintaining successful advisor relationships.   

Persistency is a key to Small Business profitability. This role is designed to keep a strong focus on persistency while balancing the profitability of the group by using discretionary spending. As well, the role is designed to work closely with the AE so that the partnership results in increased persistency and advisor relationships. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, send, manage and negotiate the renewals with plan advisors

  • Prioritize and monitor renewal workload by assigned case(s) and by advisor

  • Access various internal systems for previous renewals, claims history and other reports

  • Adjust renewal rates upwards or downwards depending on case and advisor, apply Discretionary Spending Account (DSA)

  • Suggest plan design options

  • Handle renewal appeals and advisor marketing appeals working with renewal Underwriter

  • Assist advisors with selling the renewal

  • Handle cost negotiations with advisor on renewals

  • Follow up with advisors on renewals

  • Track terminations and document reasons for not being able to renew

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of renewal process and underwriting

  • Good knowledge of GB products and Services

  • Good knowledge on pricing

  • Good knowledge on "alternate" plan designs and cost control areas

  • Understanding of trends in the GB industry

  • Reasonable knowledge on advisor requirements

  • Excellent English (and French for Quebec based employees) verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to influence

  • Ability to translate complex information into easily understood messages in a persuasive manner

  • Ability to coach/ assist plan advisors over the phone or in person

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and priority setting skills and manage high volumes

  • Good math skills

  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a small team

  • Ability to handle diverse tasks in a timely manner

  • Ability to analyze data and solve problems

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.
