We are seeking a Research Assistant, who will support groundbreaking medical research under the guidance of the Research Manager. You'll play a vital role in patient phlebotomy, biospecimen collection, data entry and lab operations, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

In this role, you will be involved in:

  • collecting, processing and storing biospecimens and recruiting participants at Nepean Public and Private Hospitals and at the Nepean Cancer Care Centre
  • gathering and entering clinical data and health-related information into databases
  • performing laboratory and administrative duties that support research activities
  • assisting with biobanking cohorts across the fields of lung, prostate and other cancer types and other non-cancer related diseases.

About you

  • tertiary qualification or equivalent in biological or medical science, with relevant experience in handling and processing biological samples in a laboratory.
  • demonstrated expertise in processing Circulating Tumour Cells (CTCs) and Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) using specialised laboratory techniques.
  • experience or willingness to learn phlebotomy.
  • keen attention to detail when collecting and transcribing clinical information, with awareness of privacy laws and handling of confidential patient data.
  • understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and biobanking techniques, including clinical data collection.
  • familiarity with good research data management practices.
  • proficiency in research software such as REDCap, FileMaker Pro, and Excel.
  • excellent communication skills, with proven ability to communicate fluently with patients and medical/health care teams.
  • strong teamwork skills and the ability to schedule and prioritise workload during busy periods.
  • proven ability to work effectively in hospital-based research environments, supporting clinical and operational workflows.
  • strong track record of delivering high-quality scientific outcomes with minimal supervision, while adapting to flexible rostering needs.
