Job Description
Summary of the role
As a DevOps engineer, you will be part of the global DevOps team where your teammates are located in different timezones. This role is crucial to the continuous improvement of people, processes and technology within Portofino. You are mainly responsible for automating complex and repetitive tasks, hence ensuring that the system functions without bottlenecks or glitches. This leads to shorter feedback loops, better collaboration and more reliable software.
You can choose to work out of any of our European locations - Zug, London or Amsterdam.
You are an ideal candidate if you have:
- Keen interest in or prior experience working in an environment supporting high volume data flow (eg. payment gateways, trading softwares/exchanges, computer games, etc)
- Software development experience
- Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to work with a fully remote DevOps team based in different countries
- Is passionate about technology, interested in both low level details of how computer hardware operates and high-level design of large systems
- Has experience in building high throughput low latency critical server side systems
- Has a “start up” mentality. Able to iterate quickly and write production quality code rapidly
Your responsibilities
- You will be responsible for scoping, designing, deploying and maintaining our development and production network infrastructure and applications
- Manage code deployments, fixes, updates and related processes; Work with CI and CD tools, and source control such as GIT
- Develop scalable automation, orchestration and provisioning tools for our development and production environments
- Propose creative and innovative solutions for infrastructure scalability and availability to improve user experience
Qualifications
Your profile
- University degree or other higher education with internationally recognised certification in computer science
- 4+ years of experience working as a DevOps engineer in an environment supporting high volume data flow- eg game development, trading, e-commerce
- 2+ experience in software development
- Based in Europe or willing to relocate to one of our European locations - Zug, London or Amsterdam
Technical competencies
Required technical competencies (must haves - you will be tested on this)
- Very good knowledge of languages such as Python, Bash
- Hands-on DevOps experience in AWS cloud and its services like EC2, VPC, S3, SNS, Load balancers, Auto scaling, Route53, Code Pipeline, Code deploy, Cloud front, IAM role, Secrets Vault etc
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code solutions like Terraform
Preferred technical competencies (highly desirable)
- Strong experience with Linux-based infrastructures, Linux/Unix administration
- Experience in working with containers - Docker preferably and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, Hashicorp Nomad etc
- Experience with observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus etc
- Continuous Integration and continuous delivery tools, like Jenkins, Gitlab, Teamcity, for automation and configuration
