Own AWS infrastructure and the Kubernetes platform, including production Couchbase and Confluent Kafka environments. Design and operate clusters, stateful workloads, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, alerting, incident response, and disaster recovery. Tune performance, manage scaling and upgrades, support data and AI workloads, and optimize cloud costs. The role requires deep hands-on expertise with Couchbase, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, observability, Linux, networking, Python, and Bash.
Description
We're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to own the company AWS infrastructure and Kubernetes platform, with deep expertise in our data layer: Couchbase and Confluent (Kafka). You'll run these systems in production, keep them fast and reliable as data volumes grow, and work closely with our Python backend, data and AI teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build and operate AWS infrastructure (EKS/ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM).
- Own Couchbase in production: cluster architecture and sizing, buckets and indexes (GSI), XDCR replication, backup/restore, upgrades, and performance tuning.
- Own the Confluent / Kafka platform: Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud, topic and partition design, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect connectors, consumer lag, throughput tuning and upgrades.
- Run stateful workloads on production Kubernetes, including Couchbase and Kafka operators, Helm, cluster scaling and upgrades.
- Manage all infrastructure as code with Terraform.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for application and data services.
- Own monitoring, logging and alerting across the platform, including Couchbase and Kafka health; lead incident response and post-mortems.
- Support data and AI/LLM workloads and keep cloud costs in check.
Requirements (must-have):
- 5+ years in DevOps / SRE / platform engineering, with 3+ years running AWS and Kubernetes in production.
- Expert-level Couchbase: hands-on production administration of Couchbase Server clusters (architecture, XDCR, indexing, backup/restore, upgrades, performance tuning).
- Expert-level Confluent / Apache Kafka: hands-on production operation of Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud (brokers, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, partitioning, consumer lag, scaling).
- Kubernetes in production, including running stateful workloads with operators.
- AWS: EKS, ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC.
- Terraform / infrastructure as code.
- CI/CD pipeline design and ownership.
- Observability and incident response (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / CloudWatch).
- Docker / containerization.
- Scripting in Python and Bash.
- Strong Linux and networking fundamentals.
- Based in Poland; fluent English.
Nice to Have:
- Certifications: Confluent Certified Administrator for Apache Kafka, Couchbase certification, CKA.
- Couchbase Capella or Confluent Cloud managed-service experience.
- Couchbase Autonomous Operator or Confluent for Kubernetes / Strimzi.
- ksqlDB / Kafka Streams; CDC pipelines (e.g. Debezium).
- ArgoCD / GitOps.
- Infrastructure for ML/LLM workloads.
- FinOps / cloud cost optimization.
