Senior Programme Manager
Flexible location

Hybrid Working

Full time (35 hours per week)

The Senior Programme Manager will be responsible for driving and managing creation and delivery of a commercial function which acts as a catalyst for change and custodian across Bupa insurance, spanning multiple market units.

How you’ll help us make health happen:

Programme

  • Work closely with Actuarial Commercial Director to define the roadmap and manage a phased delivery approach, negotiating and influencing with regional stakeholders to ensure they agree to achieve the desired outcomes.

  • Support change across regional market units using different methods and data points.

  • Ensure high quality and challenging relationships with Executive Sponsors and Business Leads (and other senior leaders across the business) to achieve effective and efficient delivery of the defined business outcomes. Effectively adapting your approach and conduct in real time to align with different situations.

  • Encourage effective working relationships with colleagues across Bupa and with third parties to gain their commitment, support, and resource to deliver work. Successfully coordinating the sub initiatives (projects and workstreams) and their dependencies, ensuring clear management and control of scope, budget, and quality.

  • Ensure robust and measurable business/value cases, with clearly identified and traceable commercial outcomes at all times.

  • Manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate discussions about high risk and complexity even within constrained timescales.

  • Operate in a way that displays the highest level of integrity, honesty and good governance and commitment to the delivery of fair customer outcomes.

  • Model the culture and take responsibility for the maintenance and development of reputation and relationships with key stakeholders such as regulators, customers, and other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Successfully deal with crisis situations well, quickly familiarising yourself with the issues at hand and focussing team members on solutions and options. You can quickly understand problems and identify impacts.

  • Champion new ideas, thoughts, tools, ways of working and change, quickly implementing them within your projects/work environment

Risk Management

  • Define a governance framework which will help us to carry out effective communication and reduce the likelihood of an event adversely affecting Bupa’s ability to achieve its objectives in a manner which is consistent with legal, regulatory and customer expectations.

  • Use judgement to determine when it is necessary to escalate through established escalation channels and utilise the governance framework in a timely manner.

  • Ensure business decisions are assessed to ensure good customer and regulatory outcomes by having a robust risk management is in place.

  • Ensure that all initiatives are managed in accordance with agreed standards, methods, and procedures (e.g., Bupa’s Change Policy, UK Change Methodology and Investment Boards).

  • Actively address the most complicated risks, issues and dependencies including where ownership exists outside the team or no clear ownership exists.

  • Builds and maintain credible relationships, instils confidence and trust in colleagues by demonstrating a sound knowledge and understanding.

  • Ability to engage, negotiate and influence by building connections and partnerships in own business area and beyond through formal and informal channels to achieve results.

  • Strong, credible and extensive experience of leading large delivery teams, in business and IT change, to deliver complex change to drive significant business benefits.

  • Highly results oriented and focussed on adding value to Bupa. Strong commercial acumen and broad business awareness.

  • Must be able to demonstrate strong stakeholder management skills across a wide range of different senior stakeholders, including Board level reporting.

  • Must have a tenacious approach to problem solving, constantly striving for effective solutions with the customer at the heart of everything.

  • Must be highly proficient in risk, resource, and cost/benefit management.

  • Extensive project management experience of multiple business and IT project delivery methodologies (e.g., Prince2, Agile etc.).

  • Demonstrate commercial judgement by showing an understanding of the business and deliver the business performance needed to achieve our purpose and goals.

  • Experience of working in a regulated (e.g. FCA etc.) and compliance led environment is desirable.

  • Knowledge of the healthcare insurance market is desirable
