Avove is looking to appoint a Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of a large design project, multiple smaller projects or a portfolio of works, with responsibility for programme, financial performance and overall project delivery.

Working alongside the Design Lead, you’ll manage multidisciplinary design teams, build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, lead project and progress meetings, undertake site visits and proactively manage project risks.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required standards of quality and compliance.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of multidisciplinary engineering design projects and programmes, from feasibility and definition through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Work closely with Design Leads and technical discipline leads to ensure designs are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with client requirements, regulatory standards and business objectives.
  • Manage project programmes, budgets, resources and forecasts, ensuring design activities are delivered against agreed milestones and commercial targets.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across civil, mechanical, electrical, process, structural and other specialist engineering disciplines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, partners and supply chain organisations, acting as a key point of contact throughout project delivery.
  • Lead project planning, design reviews, progress meetings and workshops, ensuring actions, risks and decisions are effectively managed.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate design, programme, commercial and delivery risks, taking timely action to maintain project performance.
  • Manage project scope and change control, ensuring technical, programme and commercial impacts are understood and appropriately managed.
  • Monitor design progress and performance to ensure deliverables meet agreed quality, safety, programme and contractual requirements.
  • Oversee technical interfaces and dependencies between disciplines, stakeholders and external organisations.
  • Ensure compliance with company management systems, CDM requirements and relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Support the preparation of fee estimates, proposals and delivery strategies for new and existing opportunities.
  • Promote innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement across project delivery and design management.
  • Mentor Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers and other team members, supporting the development of future design leaders.
  • Contribute to resource planning and strategic delivery discussions across the wider business.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience managing engineering, infrastructure, utilities or construction projects through the design lifecycle.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and managing programmes, budgets, resources and project controls.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients and project teams.
  • Experience identifying and managing project risks, technical challenges and delivery issues.
  • A good understanding of project governance, quality assurance, CDM Regulations and design management.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused leadership style, with the ability to develop and motivate teams.

It would also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience within water, wastewater, utilities or major infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC3 or NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience supporting tenders, fee proposals or framework delivery.
  • A relevant engineering, construction or project management qualification, such as APM, PRINCE2 or PMP.

Don’t tick every box?

We know that experience doesn’t always fit neatly into a checklist. If you have successfully managed multidisciplinary engineering or infrastructure design projects within energy, transportation, industrial processing, construction, manufacturing, defence, utilities or a related sector, we’d still love to hear from you.

We value transferable skills and experience and will support the successful candidate in developing any sector-specific knowledge needed to succeed in the role.

This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Visa process. Applicants must therefore have, and maintain, an alternative right to work for the duration of employment.

What’s in it for you?

  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
  • Company car or car allowance
  • Company pension scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Private GP Helpline and Health Cash Plan
  • Avove Discount Scheme
  • Family-friendly policies
  • A selection of lifestyle benefit options
  • Financial wellbeing programme
  • Employee Assistance Programme, alongside onsite Mental Health First Aiders to support our colleagues
  • Volunteering days to give back to your community
  • Charity matched giving to help boost your fundraising
