Role: Senior Android Engineer 2
Location: Soho Square, London Office / Hybrid
Reporting to: Engineering Manager

The Role
We are on a mission to be "the app you can’t move without". Our Android platform is central to how millions of people discover and engage with property in the UK.

We are seeking a Senior Android Engineer 2 to provide technical leadership across the Android app. In this role you will set the architectural direction, define standards for quality and performance, and lead cross-team initiatives that elevate our Android capabilities. You will work closely with Product Management, QA, Back-end engineering, Product Design and Analytics to ensure the platform enables rapid experimentation while remaining robust and maintainable.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Platform Strategy: Define and drive Android architectural strategy, including modularisation, navigation and deep link approaches, shared libraries and design system implementation.
  • Cross-Team Leadership: Partner with multiple teams to ensure consistent approaches, high code quality and effective reuse of components and tooling.
  • Complex Delivery: Lead the design and delivery of high impact, cross cutting projects, unblocking teams and making pragmatic technical decisions.
  • Developer Experience: Improve build, CI/CD and local developer workflows, focusing on reliability, feedback speed and ease of contributing.
  • Performance and Reliability: Set expectations for performance, startup time, memory usage and crash-free rates, and lead initiatives to meet them.
  • Coaching and Mentorship: Support Senior and Mid-level Android engineers through technical guidance, career development conversations and involvement in hiring and progression frameworks.
  • Community Leadership: Represent Android within the wider Native Apps and Engineering communities, sharing best practices, running guilds or forums and contributing to broader technical direction.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Experience: Has deep experience building and evolving large scale Android applications, ideally supporting millions of users.
  • Architectural Leadership: Has led architectural evolution and platform initiatives and is comfortable balancing ideal designs with practical constraints.
  • Strategic Influence: Can work with Product and Technology leaders to align on long term plans and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Builds strong relationships with Product, Design, QA, Data and Backend, and is skilled at facilitation and alignment.
  • Operational Excellence: Experienced in observability, incident response, SLOs and continuous improvement of reliability and performance.
  • People Leadership: Enjoys growing others, influencing hiring standards and helping shape an inclusive, high performing engineering culture.
  • Communication: Can clearly articulate complex issues and proposals to a variety of audiences, from engineers to senior stakeholders.

Bonus points for:
- Experience in multi-module, multi-app or white-label Android architectures.
- Prior involvement in setting technical career frameworks or promotion criteria.
- Public engagement in the Android ecosystem through talks, writing or open source.
