Summary:

Genesys is looking for a passionate Senior Technical Revenue Accountant to join our growing team! The Senior Technical Revenue Accountant will support complex contract reviews, technical accounting assessments, and revenue recognition matters across Genesys’ product and service offerings.

This is not a typical revenue accounting role. The position requires strong technical accounting skills, critical thinking, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities. The Senior Technical Revenue Accountant will perform ad hoc analyses, evaluate complex contract terms and deal structures, and partner closely with Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, Finance, and other cross-functional teams to determine the appropriate revenue accounting treatment. The ideal candidate will play an important role in ensuring accurate revenue recognition while helping the business navigate complex and evolving commercial arrangements. The role requires the ability to translate technical accounting conclusions into practical guidance that supports business objectives while maintaining compliance with Company policy.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to);

Technical Revenue:

  • Review complex customer contracts, amendments, and non-standard transactions to determine the appropriate revenue recognition treatment under ASC 606 and Company policy.
  • Research technical accounting guidance and prepare clear, well-supported accounting assessments and memoranda for complex or judgmental transactions.
  • Evaluate new and evolving products, pricing models, and commercial arrangements to determine revenue recognition implications.
  • Exercise independent judgment in analyzing complex or novel transactions, develop well-supported accounting conclusions, and escalate significant or highly judgmental matters as appropriate.
  • Support the development, documentation, and consistent application of revenue recognition policies and accounting positions.

Deal Desk, Sales, and Customer Success Management Support:

  • Partner closely with Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, Finance, Order Management, and other cross-functional teams to provide revenue recognition guidance throughout the contracting process.
  • Review proposed deal structures, contract terms, and non-standard provisions prior to execution, identify potential accounting implications, and recommend solutions that balance business objectives with revenue recognition requirements.
  • Serve as a technical revenue resource to business partners, clearly communicating complex accounting concepts and helping stakeholders understand the revenue implications of proposed arrangements.
  • Support timely resolution of complex and urgent deal-related questions in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Policy, Projects & Compliance

  • Assist with the development and delivery of ASC 606 policies, guidance, tools, and training for Revenue and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Participate in strategic and ad hoc initiatives, including new product launches, new pricing and consumption models, acquisitions, process improvements, and other evolving business needs.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation supporting significant revenue accounting conclusions, internal controls, and external audit requirements.
  • Partner with Revenue Operations and other teams on system or process changes where technical revenue accounting requirements or conclusions need to be incorporated into implementation.
  • Translate technical accounting conclusions into practical guidance and process documentation to support consistent application of Company policy across the business.
  • Support external audit requests and quarterly reviews by preparing documentation and explaining the accounting conclusions underlying complex transactions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of related Revenue Recognition (ASC 606) experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification (or progress toward qualification) preferred.
  • Experience with ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI tools.
  • Ability to interact effectively with sales and product teams, functional peer groups and subordinates and to gain cooperation from others, especially those in other departments, as well as with outside auditors and outside legal counsel.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of multiple concurrent and diversified tasks, while working with deadlines.
  • Ability to stay energized with shifting priorities and comfortable in identifying and escalating issues timely.
  • Confidence and proven record to communicate both orally and written, including the dissemination of technical information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized, with great attention to detail.
  • Problem solver: The candidate should be a strong, analytical problem solver with a common sense and practical solutions orientation.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM), Salesforce, revenue recognition systems (e.g., RevPro), or ERP systems (e.g., Workday) preferred.
  • Experience in revenue accounting within a software, SaaS, or technology environment preferred.
  • Big 4 experience.
  • Advanced in Excel.
