Job Description

We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our Recommend team in the London office.

Recommend owns the invite journey of our customers - they build experiences that allow our customers to refer others to use Wise for their needs. This includes the invite programs on the website and apps, supporting affiliate signups, offering a variety of incentives for customers to talk about Wise to their friends and family.

As most people hear about Wise through word of mouth, the recommendation journey plays a critical part in how people find out about Wise. As a software engineer in this cross-functional team, you will get the opportunity to shape the first impressions of many of our soon-to-be-new customers, and build out a set of systems that allow us to scale our recommendation programs.

As a Software Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate with product, design and marketing to deliver impactful projects,

  • Improve the availability and scalability of our recommendation engine, and how we can create a flexible system marketing teams can use for easy experimentation,

  • Help shape the team’s roadmap and delivery, break down projects into incremental milestones, provide feedback on technical design decisions and approach

Qualifications

What do you need?

We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you!

  • A strong product mindset and passion for UX – you prioritise work with customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points

  • Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones that deliver customer value

  • Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences

  • Experience in developing scalable distributed systems in a production environment, preferably using Java & Spring Boot

  • Understanding of what good engineering practices look like and an ability to follow them in your work

  • Experience working with relational databases

  • An openness to learn and work across the stack, if needed
