Job Description:

   

HPE is looking for a Senior-level Software Engineering Resolution Engineer to join our Level 3 global service HPC team. This Service Engineer is to provide support for high performance computing networks on a variety of supercomputer and cluster based products.  The focus for this position is tracking, communicating and testing issues/fixes and troubleshooting and analyzing Linux networking issues, including performance issues and those tied to HPE’s system/cluster management software/tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs engineering solutions utilizing multiple engineering disciplines for products, systems, software, and solutions based on established engineering principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.

  • Develops and implements parameters and test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of mechanical, electrical, software, and other engineering specifications and requirements.

  • Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution

  • Leads a project team of other engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for moderately- complex products.

  • Represents the mechanical/thermal team for all phases of larger and more-complex development projects.

  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.

  • Provide technical support for customer reported issues escalated to level 3 support

  • Analyze, reproduce, troubleshoot, isolate, escalate, and resolve issues

  • Facilitate high quality communication with customers

  • Work with various HPE teams, including but not limited to, HPE Level 2 support, Publications, Training, Support Planning, Testing and Cray R&D

  • Test and provide new network software updates and documentation via customer portal

  • Document and communicate throughout the whole process of working an issue until closure

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field/discipline

  • 5+ years of technical experience, ideally in an HPC-related area

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of Slingshot networking is a plus.

  • Using appropriate engineering design tools and software packages to design components and solutions.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Understanding of material properties and hardware, software, and electrical component design

  • Using empirical analysis, modeling and testing methodologies to validate product designs and specifications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.

  • Strong Linux networking knowledge and experience

  • Strong experience with Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs, and enterprise level switch configuration

  • Experience in several of the following network technologies:  InfiniBand, NIS, DNS, NTP, LDAP, NFS, OSPF, BGP, LLDP, LAG/MLAG, bonding, LACP

  • Cluster management experience very desirable

  • Ability to gather data, perform analysis, reproduce, resolve or escalate, and see issues through to closure

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize, switching between working several issues at once

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to investigate and resolve complex problems as part of a team

  • Ability to provide after-hours support work, as required.

  • Good communication skills, internally within HPE and externally with customers, both verbal and written

Job Conditions:

  • Rotation of on-call duties with other staff to provide 24x7 coverage

  • Occasional travel for training or to assist with installations or support remote systems
