The role, in a nutshell:
We are looking for an experienced and technically skilled Technical Program Manager with a strong background in software development to lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in software engineering and program management to collaborate with engineering teams, define technical requirements, and drive projects through the full software development lifecycle.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to deeply understand technical work problems and software program goals, ensuring clear prioritization of deliverables and alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Prioritize software development goals by translating technical needs into actionable tasks, creating technical roadmaps, and ensuring deliverables meet software engineering standards.
  • Define the scope of projects, developing, executing, and managing software-focused project plans, ensuring projects are completed on time and within the required technical specifications.
  • Review key metrics for software development projects, identify deviations, and define corrective actions for any critical software engineering challenges or blockers.
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and collaborate with relevant software development stakeholders to drive impactful software development initiatives across teams.

Image Fulfillment - Tactical (Software Context)

  • Manage the daily operations of the Image Fulfillment department, ensuring smooth software-driven workflows, prioritization of tasks, issue resolution, and efficient delivery within a technical environment.
  • Develop and implement processes to streamline software-driven order handling and quality assurance.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for Engineering and Product teams, particularly on software development processes related to image fulfillment; lead daily stand-ups and facilitate communication on engineering-focused initiatives.
  • Supervise and manage the performance of engineering contractors, ensuring they follow best practices in software development processes and contribute effectively to the team's goals.

Image Fulfillment - Strategic (Software Focus)

  • Conduct software-based order forecasting and capacity planning to ensure sufficient engineering resources for parallel image order processing.
  • Identify, propose, and lead strategic software development projects to improve Chainguard's image and package-building aspects, ensuring all packages in RHEL 9 are covered and facilitating migration for prospects through enhanced software engineering solutions.

What we're looking for:

  • 5 years of experience in program management within a software development environment.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience in software development best practices, with a deep understanding of methods, tools, and process improvements to optimize cross-team engineering initiatives.
  • Proven experience working with development teams, understanding code, development tools, and lifecycle management, and leveraging those insights to drive successful project outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience managing cross-functional and cross-team software development projects, with a focus on delivering high-quality software solutions.
