Job Summary

We are looking for a UX Designer with a strong interest in user research to join our team building tools that help users understand and optimise the performance of machine learning applications running on Graphcore’s hardware.

In this role, you will focus on deeply understanding our users, including how they work, the challenges they face, and how they interact with both graphical interfaces and command-line tools.

You will translate user research insights into clear, usable designs for sophisticated analysis software.

You’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure design decisions are grounded in real user needs and validated through research.

The Team

The UX team supports development teams building tools that help users optimise their machine learning applications for Graphcore hardware. We work across the product lifecycle, from early discovery and research through to detailed design and validation, advocating for user-centred design throughout the organisation.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan, conduct, and analyse user research to understand user needs, workflows, and pain points, including research with highly technical users
  • Contribute to and lead independent usability research efforts, synthesising findings and clearly communicating insights to inform product and design decisions
  • Shape user experiences for both graphical user interfaces and command-line tools, ensuring consistency and usability across different interaction models
  • Create wireframes and high-fidelity interactive prototypes to explore and communicate design solutions
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to turn research insights into practical, usable solutions
  • Maintain and curate the research repository to ensure insights are well documented, discoverable, and reusable
  • Promote the value of user research and user-centred design principles across teams
  • Maintain and contribute to the design system and design library to support consistency and efficiency
Candidate ProfileEssential:
  • Professional experience in UX design, user research, or a related discipline
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong user-centred design thinking, including research-driven projects (PDF or link)
  • Experience using design and prototyping tools such as Figma or Adobe XD
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present research findings and design rationale
  • Comfortable collaborating with engineers and other technical stakeholders
Desirable
  • A degree in a relevant subject
  • Experience conducting usability testing using tools such as UserTesting or UserZoom
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and Atomic Design principles
  • Experience designing for technical software, developer tools, or CLI-based workflows
  • Experience designing data visualisations or analytical tools
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills
