Light Trace Photonics, a Bristol-based startup specializing in photonic chips, has secured £600,000 in its first investment round, led by QantX Ventures.

This funding will support the development and launch of LightCraft, a platform providing access to a library of tested photonic chip components. Designed for quantum, communications and photonic processing companies, LightCraft aims to accelerate product development by streamlining the design process and reducing time-to-market.

According to reporting by Tech Funding News, LightCraft empowers engineers to quickly evaluate and test concepts using pre-existing chips before committing to fabrication, enabling faster, more efficient product development while freeing up resources for system-level design and speeding up product launches.

QantX Investment Manager Dr. Harry Alexander said in a statement: “Photonics is a critical and enabling sector for our modern society, with new complex photonic integrated circuits (PICs) representing a paradigm shift in the form and functionality of devices. Having worked with Light Trace since 2022, we’re excited to back them in delivering LightCraft, a novel platform to enable rapid PIC development.”
