Job Description

JOB TITLE: AI Engineer

LOCATIONS: London / Bristol / Edinburgh

HOURS: Full-Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

About The Team and Role

We're the Innovation team, part of the Client Data & Analytics platform within the Business and Commercial Banking division. Our mission is to create business value through Generative AI by delivering innovative, production-ready solutions across multiple domains.

As an AI Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and deploying enterprise-scale AI systems, shaping technical direction for both prototypes and production solutions. You'll help shape advanced AI solutions that harness Large Language Models (LLMs) and emerging agentic patterns, driving innovation while meeting strict security and governance standards.

Our team is small, fast-moving, and constantly evolving, giving you the opportunity to influence technical decisions and contribute across the full solution lifecycle. You’ll thrive if you embrace ambiguity, excel in resource-constrained environments, and take initiative to drive best practices—while staying ahead of AI advancements to keep us at the forefront of innovation.

What We're Looking For

  • Ability to architect AI systems at scale, applying cloud-native principles and ensuring security, compliance, and governance. Skilled at navigating enterprise processes—identifying requirements, engaging with risk and security forums, and securing architecture approvals—while balancing innovation with regulatory obligations.

  • Experience influencing and improving enterprise AI environments by collaborating with platform and governance teams to define secure, scalable, and compliant foundations, and proactively driving best practices.

  • Strong Python expertise and solid software engineering fundamentals—clean, maintainable code, modular design, testing, and best practices for building secure, production-ready systems.

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering production-grade AI services, including API development, containerization, orchestration, and automated infrastructure and release pipelines for reliable, scalable delivery in cloud environments.

  • Applied experience with observability and MLOps practices, monitoring system health and model performance, tracking metrics, and enabling continuous improvement in production environments.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical partners, translating business requirements into actionable technical solutions, setting shared expectations, and providing clear, timely communication throughout delivery.

  • Commitment to staying informed on AI advancements and assessing their applicability, ensuring solutions remain innovative and aligned with strategic goals. Actively contribute to an inclusive, collaborative team culture, fostering knowledge sharing and collective growth.

It Would Be Nice To Have

  • Understanding of Commercial and Business Banking products, services, and processes, enabling better alignment of AI solutions with real-world business needs and customer outcomes.

  • Exposure to LLM concepts, such as context engineering, retrieval strategies, agentic workflows, and orchestration, along with working knowledge of frameworks like LangGraph to support informed design decisions and enhance solution robustness.

  • Experience with front-end development to quickly prototype and validate AI-driven solutions, enabling faster iteration and alignment with business requirements.

And, as a Disability Confident Leader, we guarantee interviews for a fair and proportionate number of applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role with a disability, long-term health or neurodivergent condition through the Disability Confident Scheme. We provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process to reduce or remove barriers. Just let us know what you need.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%

  • An annual performance-related bonus

  • Share schemes including free shares

  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping

We keep your data safe. So, we'll only ever ask you to provide confidential or sensitive information once you have formally been invited along to an interview or accepted a verbal offer to join us which is when we run our background checks.  We'll always explain what we need and why, with any request coming from a trusted Lloyds Banking Group person.
