Role Title: Data Operations Engineer – Data R&D

Role
As a Data Operations Engineer, you’ll play a critical role within the Enterprise Data function, part of the R&D organisation at StarCompliance. You’ll be responsible for the delivery, maintenance, and evolution of the data feed infrastructure that underpins the Star platform, ensuring that clients and brokers can exchange data securely, accurately, and efficiently.
Working at the intersection of data operations and software development, this role offers an excellent opportunity to collaborate closely with engineering teams, expand your technical expertise, and directly influence the quality and performance of Star’s data ecosystem. You’ll work alongside Client Support Services, Professional Services, Development, and Relationship Management to ensure a seamless data experience across the business.
This position reports to the Data Feeds Operations Team Lead and is ideal for someone who combines technical capability, curiosity, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Feed Administration and Configuration
  • Configure and manage secure SFTP accounts and access permissions.
  • Partner with clients and brokers to establish, test, and deploy new data feeds.
  • Implement and maintain encryption standards (PGP/GPG, SSH key pairs).
  • Develop and maintain automated batch processes to streamline data movement.
  • Apply and validate new file import packages and releases in production environments.
  • Monitoring and Operational Support
  • Monitor daily and intraday data feed activity, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Maintain and optimise the MoveIt platform for secure file automation and transfers.
  • Provide second-line support for feed-related incidents, escalating where appropriate.
  • Categorise, report, and track incidents by severity, impact, and priority.
  • Conduct test transmissions and validate file imports to ensure feed integrity and accuracy.
  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
  • Work closely with Development teams to resolve technical issues and share knowledge.
  • Contribute to process optimisation, tooling improvements, and automation initiatives.
  • Support internal documentation and the sharing of best practices across the team.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence and proactive issue prevention.

Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in SFTP connectivity and file transfer tools (for example, WS_FTP, MoveIt, FTPGetter, FileZilla).
  • Strong understanding of data encryption and key management (PGP/GPG, SSH).
  • Practical experience with SQL Server (T-SQL) for investigating and resolving data issues.
  • Familiarity with SSIS or similar ETL processes for data movement and transformation.
  • Understanding of Windows Server environments and basic scripting (for example, PowerShell, Python or similar batch scripting).
  • Experience with cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Background in financial services, compliance, or other data-intensive operations.
  • Experience supporting or managing production data workflows or file-based integrations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years in a technical or operational data role such as Data Engineering, Application Support, or Data Operations, ideally within a SaaS or financial technology environment.
  • Integrity and Ethics
  • All StarCompliance employees are expected to commit to a high standard of personal integrity and carry out their responsibilities in an ethical manner.
