TITLE: Manager, Data Engineering
LOCATION: New York City (hybrid) or Fully Remote in the United States
SALARY: $160,000 - $190,000 (based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Software Engineering Manager to lead and inspire our Data Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will have experience with data modeling, pipelines, and infrastructure, as well as be a strong technical leader that has a history of delivering impactful results. You'll play a key role in overseeing and guiding Data Engineering work, cultivating technical talent, and accelerating Canoe's product growth.
What You'll Do:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of six data engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, promoting professional growth and development.
  • Drive the hiring process to attract top talent.
  • Collaborate with product management and other stakeholders to define and prioritize technical projects.
  • Drive the design and development of Canoe's data platform.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and resources to ensure successful project completion.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, remove roadblocks, and ensure a continuous flow of information within the team.
  • Adapt to changing requirements and provide innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.


What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 in a data engineering role.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience leading teams and managing ICs.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross functionally with Product and other Engineering teams to deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguous or missing information and adapt quickly in a startup-like environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for getting involved in both technical details and high-level strategy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).


Preferred:

  • Experience with our core technologies: Kafka, PostgreSQL, AWS, Snowflake.
  • A curious explorer who keeps up to date with latest technical developments and has a good knowledge of the process of building data systems.
  • A leader who promotes a culture of curiosity, inclusion, and humility.
