Role: Materials Manager
Location: Kitt Green, Wigan UK
Working hours: Monday-Friday 8-4:30pm

Role Purpose
As Materials Manager, you'll ensure factory continuity by owning the inbound call-off and supply chain relationships of all component materials required for conversion to finished goods e.g. raw materials and packaging materials, acting as key facilitator between Production Planning, Operations, Purchasing and Suppliers to optimise OTIF, identify supply risks with proposals / actions for mitigation of risks.
You'll maintain system data (e.g. SAP, Material Control Tower) to optimise working capital and efficiency of supply chains into and within the organisation.

Principal accountabilities

  • Ownership of materials.
  • Call off material requirements from suppliers into the factory.
  • Reviewing data metrics for scheduling data, for example safety stocks, safety time as well as other material data such as lead time and minimum order quantity.
  • Establish optimum data metrics, collaborating with Procurement Ops to enable data changes and supplier performance management.
  • RIRO of all materials, regardless of status (e.g. blocked) or ownership (e.g. NPD), to minimise supply chain losses.
  • Recommend key materials for operations to cycle count based on value / supply risks.
  • Highlight risks for material shortages and recommend plan changes to the Production Schedulers based on material availability.
  • Maintain register of material risks, raising with Procurement teams as the need arises.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to ensure Supplier Performance Management data is accurate and priorities are supported.
  • Understand and communicate reasons for blocked material shortages and seek resolution with FSQ etc. to support production planning needs.
  • Act as "Gate Keeper" to ensure materials are "Fit for Use"
  • Provide information to central teams for NOD write-off risks.
  • Control inventory within targets and connect with Central Supply Planning for variances both historical and forecasted.
  • Handle invoice query quantity variances and resolve queries with GBS and advise them of improvements.
  • Where helpful, provide short/long-term forecasts to suppliers.
  • Facilitate movement of materials from and to site with other external facilities, including inter-factory movements.
  • Coordinate materials, on a just in time basis, to support all Kitt Green production and off-site production operations.
  • Daily analysis of site production figures and stock situations to adjust deliveries and minimize costs.
  • Contact suppliers and outside stores and also verify by sending copies of delivery instructions by EDI, Email or other means.
  • Recalculate and handle up to 100 variety changes per week and ensure these are adequately covered.


The Scheduling team handles some £6 million worth of inventory and is responsible for keeping it as low level as possible. Over £150 million worth of goods is handled by the team each year.
Knowledge & Experience

  • Supply Chain experience highly preferable;
  • Food & Beverage / FMCG a nice to have;
  • Outstanding communication skills;
  • A desire to continuously improve;
  • Meticulous with detail;
  • An outstanding relationship builder with both internal and external decision makers.
  • Advanced MS Excel
  • SAP skills (particularly MTD-S & LE).
