This role will support a rapidly scaling payroll operation in the UK in a fast-growing global tech company.

This is a hands-on, operational role where accuracy, compliance, and great employee experience really matter. You’ll be the go-to person for UK payroll, pensions, and payroll-related benefits, working closely with our People and Finance teams and reporting into the VP Finance.

If you enjoy processing payroll, solving queries, and bringing calm to busy payroll cycles — we’d love to hear from you.

  • Review payroll outputs for accuracy, resolve discrepancies and provide payroll for review by VP Finance
  • Ensure payroll is delivered accurately and on time, every month

Pensions & Benefits

  • Manage UK pension contribution uploads, reconciliations, and reporting of new starters and leavers
  • Administer payroll-linked benefits including Cycle to Work and Give As You Earn (GAYE)
  • Set up, amend, and stop deductions in line with provider and People team data
  • Liaise with pension and benefit providers as needed

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
  • Reconcile RTI filings and support year-end processes including P60’s and PSA reporting
  • Provide payroll journals files to Finance
  • Maintain accurate, auditable payroll records and support the annual financial audit in relation to payroll queries

Employee & People Team Support

  • Be the first point of contact for UK employee payroll queries
  • Work closely with the People team to ensure accurate data and smooth processes
  • Clearly explain payslips, deductions, pensions, benefits, and statutory payments for any queries that arise

Operational Ownership

  • Provide day-to-day payroll support while the Global Payroll Manager is on maternity leave
  • Maintain payroll documentation and controls
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and employee experience

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of operating a monthly payroll in the UK
  • Strong knowledge of PAYE, NI, pensions, and salary sacrifice
  • Experience managing pension uploads and payroll-linked benefits
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Confident communicator with a customer-focused approach
  • High level of discretion and professionalism

Nice to have

  • Experience in a tech or high-growth company
  • Familiarity with payroll & HR systems such as ADP
  • Exposure to multi-country payroll environments

Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, Graphcore offers flexible working, a generous annual leave policy, private medical insurance and health cash plan, a dental plan, pension (matched up to 5%), life assurance and income protection. We have a generous parental leave policy and an employee assistance programme (which includes health, mental wellbeing, and bereavement support). We offer a range of healthy food and snacks at our central Bristol office and have our own barista bar! We welcome people of different backgrounds and experiences; we’re committed to building an inclusive work environment that makes Graphcore a great home for everyone. We offer an equal opportunity process and understand that there are visible and invisible differences in all of us. We can provide a flexible approach to interview and encourage you to chat to us if you require any reasonable adjustments.

Applicants for this position must hold the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately at this time, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship or support for visa applications.
