Summary:
Achievement First seeks a Seasonal Outreach Associate (SOA) who will support AF’s community engagement and student recruitment efforts in Brooklyn/Queens, New York. This is a great opportunity for an individual who is passionate about providing access to great education for every child.
Reporting to the Senior Community Outreach Associate, the SOA will play an active role in conducting on the ground outreach to prospective families in Brooklyn/Queens.
Responsibilities of the Seasonal Outreach Associate will execute on the ground outreach tactics, including but are not limited to:
- Speak confidently and passionately about AF schools within a specific market and the distinct characteristics about each school
- Approach and talk to people in high traffic areas or at events
- Set up tablings at community based organizations and community events and proactively engage with prospective families
- Support families in filling out an application
- Distribute AF marketing materials strategically in high visibility areas
- Meet lead and application goals set out by the student recruitment team
Skills and Characteristics
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
- Strong work ethic and “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude
- Results-oriented individual and willing to do “whatever it takes”
- Experience with CRM tools/platforms
- Demonstrated commitment to education, low income communities, and communities of color; prior knowledge of Brooklyn and/or Queens communities a plus;
- Spanish, French, Bengali, and Haitian Creole speakers strongly encouraged to apply
- Candidates with reliable transportation strongly encouraged to apply
Educational Background and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent work experience)
- Previous work experience in canvassing, campaign experience, and community organizing, strongly preferred
- Experience working with families a plus
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work after-hours and on weekends
- Ability to work outdoors
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods
- Ability to work in, but not limited to, Brownsville, Bushwick, East New York, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Garden, Flatbush Downtown Brooklyn, Jamaica, and St. Albans.
Compensation
This position will be part time for 10-20 hours a week, at $35/hour. The estimated time period of employment is ASAP through June 30, 2025.
Seasonal Outreach Associates must have access to a cell phone, computer, and reliable internet in order to perform the job functions.
