Job Description

The role

As our value grows, so does our need for extraordinary people. Content designers at Checkout.com build best-in-class financial products and online payment solutions by creating human, empowering, and intuitive in-product communication strategies. You’ll be an integral part of our design process, responsible for crafting compelling experiences that respond to our merchants’ needs and giving them the tools they need to deliver unrivalled performance.

As a small but impact-driven team, we need an independent individual who is comfortable leading content design for a particular product or feature, some of which we may be staffing for the first time. You’ll show what Content Design can do.

The team is led by the Senior Manager, Content Design and is embedded within a centralised Design organisation. You’ll partner closely with other content designers, product designers and user researchers, in addition to key stakeholders such as product management and engineering.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Own content design for your product area/s and lead in-product communication strategy for key features and launches.

  • Partner closely with your design peers to produce cohesive, considered product experiences to deadlines.

  • Partner with technical writers to help define content journeys from the user interface to our documentation sites.

  • Give constructive feedback on product strategy, product design and user research, and receive feedback on your work.

  • Present your designs to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Increase your impact by considering the effect of your work on the broader experience and by advocating for solutions that scale.

  • Document and share processes, patterns, standards and terminology.

  • Work independently and autonomously, and prioritise your workload effectively, seeking support when necessary.

  • Be an evangelist for content design at Checkout.com.

  • Contribute to a strong design culture and participate in the community.

  • Develop expertise in the payments space.

Qualifications

With your expertise and experience, you excel at crafting intuitive and seamless designs. You’re keen to get to know your customers and develop a deep understanding of their needs, finding a harmonious solution between the needs of our merchants and our needs as a business. Crucially, you understand the importance of great content and the role it plays in the development of successful products, and can inspire the same enthusiasm in others. You're an articulate and empathetic communicator who is able to present work effectively, navigate ambiguity with grace, give and receive constructive feedback well, and influence product direction.

  • Experience in content design or UX writing for desktop and mobile experiences, with a portfolio that includes examples such as design mocks, prototypes and extracts from style guides.

  • Fluent in written and verbal English.

  • Experience of contributing to design systems, content patterns, style guides and terminology databases.

  • Able to produce high quality, error-free content to tight deadlines consistently.

  • Able to think in systems: you can see the big picture and how your work fits in.

  • Able to collaborate closely and effectively with peers from various disciplines, including product design, product management and engineering.

  • Experience of presenting to and influencing stakeholders at all levels of seniority.

  • Experience of using user research findings and analytics insights to inform your decisions.

  • Able to work independently.
