Job Description SummaryThe Senior Engineering Project Manager (EPM) leads and manages the assigned engineering team and is accountable for delivering the project scope within the committed cost, schedule and quality. They will provide oversight and leadership to the engineering team to meet customer and business expectations. Essential Responsibilities
- Leads the project execution of the assigned engineering team to deliver on commitments. In doing so, co-ordinates, organises, guides and motivates the cross functional teams to complete work to cost, schedule and budget in a compliant manner.
- Maintains budget and schedule adherence through active management, problem solving and a flexible approach to team direction.
- Engages with support functions across the matrix where necessary to deliver engineering objectives
- Manages resource forecasting and interfaces with contractors, suppliers and internal functional leads to secure the applicable resource required to accomplish project deliverables.
- Use of Earned Value Management, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and specific metrics to demonstrate project status and utilises these KPIs for internal project control, external reporting purposes and escalation if required.
- Engages with functional teams to develop robust engineering effort estimates underpinned by a well documented basis of estimate (BoE). Organises these estimates against the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and project phase to enable the associated engineering work to be monitored and controlled.
- The EPM creates and maintains an integrated master schedule of all work packages, maintaining responsibility and control for the entire project.
- Lead stakeholder engineering reviews, including internal programme or business reviews, and external customer reviews.
- Identifies and actively manages technical and non-technical risks and opportunities to the cost and schedule. Initiates and drives active mitigation activities that reduce the risk exposure.
- Evaluates and seeks approval for changes to scope, cost and schedule and manages / mitigates the impact accordingly.
- Provides strong team leadership, creating an energised, driven, and agile culture, demonstrating trust, ownership and accountability.
- Uses technical experience, factual data analysis and high level of judgment to support recommendations and make decisions in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has the ability to assess quality of information given and challenge stakeholders. Takes new perspective on existing solutions, and encourages diverse perspectives from others.
- Acts as a coach and mentor for colleagues with less experience. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus.
Qualification/Experience
- Experience in a Project Management role in an Engineering/Technology environment
- An appropriate degree in Engineering from an accredited university, or equivalent experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with high team building capability
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-functional projects, in a matrixed organisation
- Demonstrated ability of working with external customers and delivering to meet their requirements
